My attempt to single-handedly resuscitate the Japanese economy continued yesterday. I bought several more CDs (Pupa, Tomobe Masato, Love Psychedelico) and books (Shono Yoriko, Yoshimoto Takaaki, Okunaka Yasuto). How am I going to carry these all back home?
I continued this massive consumption binge by eating tonkatsu for lunch and then going to see the new film GS Wonderland (see the trailer here), which playfully recreates the 1960s Group Sounds boom in Japanese rock-and-roll. I topped this all off last night by visiting Iseya, the great old rat-trap in Kichijoji that hasn't been cleaned since it opened in 1928, to eat some yummy yakitori and to let the smoke permeate into my clothing. With my sweater and jacket hanging on the wall, my matchbox-sized hotel room now smells like a barbeque pit.
Today, it's off to Sendai, because there just aren't enough places for me to spend my money here in Tokyo.
