Yesterday, I had arthroscopic knee surgery to repair a torn meniscus and to carry out a "microfracture" to deal with some cartilage damage. The operation seems to have gone about as well as possible, and the post-operative pain has been quite bearable, at least so far (24 hours after the end of surgery). I have the usual array of narcotics to call on if it gets worse, too.
The hardest part in all of this is that I have to keep all weight off the knee for the next six weeks. This means a very limited range of activity and crutches wherever I go. Which is to say, if you're a regular reader of this blog, things are going to be pretty domestic for the next few weeks.... On the plus side, I hope to finish my book chapter of on Group Sounds rock-and-roll combos from the 1960s during this downtime. I've delivered the material as lectures on a couple of occasions, but now it's time to write it up formally.
