oooh, I will read Pnin next. What do you think about Pale Fire, Despair, and Transparent Things? I’ve only read Lolita and Bend Sinister so far, and the others are on my shelf, and not sure which to read next. If he writes like this in English, I can only imagine how he wrote in his native language–his writing is really a gift…masterful.

Very nice write-up, MKB!

In deed, principal trumpet Christopher Martin was/is the offstage trumpet in “Leonore” No. 3., as he was last week in No. 2. It gets complicated having an offstage player come onstage for a bow mid-concert.

Hatoyama’s vague promise of “Zero Base” on Okinawa has finally bit him in the behind. I can not realistically foresee the SDP holding on to power much longer.

Fascinating stuff. North Korea is constantly destabilizing things. I suppose Kim Jung-Il is simply a looney. What mentally stable person could believe that anything positive could result from this kind of instability?
